Sharjah Finance Department wins Sharjah Award for Public Finance under the best e-financial system category

 

The Sharjah Finance Department (SFD) was recently awarded this year's Sharjah Award for Public Finance under the category of the best e-financial system, for developing its government e-financial system “Takamul." The ceremony was held under the patronage and attendance of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre in Sharjah.

The award acknowledged more than ten years of efforts of the SFD in developing an innovative government e-financial system that complied with international standards and met the needs of the Government of Sharjah and its various departments. Developed at the instruction of SFD's senior management, the system was in line with the digital transformation strategy. It was developed by SFD's distinguished work groups, based on the laws and procedures supporting its organizational structure and was based on the vision of becoming pioneers in the world of finance.

His Excellency Waleed Al Sayegh, Director General of the Sharjah Finance Department said, “We are delighted about winning the Sharjah Award for Public Finance, under the category of best e-financial system. The award honours the continuous effort of our innovative government work, inspired by the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop the government financial services, and ensure happiness for individuals and institutions dealing with the department."

Al Sayegh said the government e-financial system 'Takamul' was one of the best financial resource systems in the Arab World, due to its comprehensive programs serving all requirements of the government financial works. It also contained supporting programs for monitoring financial performance, facilitating financial control procedures and connecting with the human resources, purchase and audit systems on a risk-based auditing, as well as connecting with internal systems of the government departments.

The SFD started developing the financial system in 2006, to replace the paper work environment. It had gradually shifted from paper to electronic work environment, then skillfully used smart applications to become a digital government with sustainable development.

The department has prepared the award nomination file through a specialized team backed by the consolidated efforts of all divisions. The file prepared suited the achievements of the department and met all the needs and requirements of the nomination as required by the award. As the SFD has had many distinguished expertise in all fields, it also won several awards in the past three years. This was achieved due to the support of the senior management and work teams.

The Sharjah Award for Public Finance was established in 2016 by the Amiri Decree number 31 of the same year, issued by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. This first of its kind award in the Arab World in the field of public finance was aimed to strengthen government departments and enable them to effectively implement financial functions and to prepare budgets in accordance with advanced electronic systems. The award was aimed to preserve public funds, maintain sustainability and appropriate benefit of the resources. It also aimed to strengthen positive competition and promote those who distinguish themselves in public funds management in line with the ambitions of governments and to achieve the required rationalization accompanied with distinction and success in a positive competition.​
