Sharjah Finance Department signs MoU with University of Sharjah

The Sharjah Finance Department in Sharjah (SFD) and the University of Sharjah (UoS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation, exchange knowledge, expertise and to establish a lasting partnership that contributes to sustainable development.

The MoU was signed by HE Waleed Al Sayegh, General Director of the Sharjah Finance Department, and His Excellency Dr Humaid Mjol Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Muammar Baltayeb, Vice Chancellor for Scientific Research and Higher Studies, and Dr Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs.

The MoU was aimed to enhance cooperation and to exchange experience and institutional expertise, in order to support the academic work with the professional expertise that effectively contributes to the advancement of human cadres. It also aimed to support training of university graduates in a government financial environment, and to benefit from the available highly qualified faculty specialised in finance, the facilities, the infrastructure, technology and launch a specialised course in “Governmental Accounting in accordance with the government financial system "TAKAMUL" by the Accounting Department in the College of Business Administration at the University of Sharjah.

The MoU included cooperation in preparing and implementing of several specialised professional diplomas in General finance, based on the awareness of the importance of innovation and creativity in the development, training, research and implementation of effective community service.

His Excellency Waleed Al Sayegh emphasised the keen interest of the Sharjah Finance Department to provide all support to the academic institutions and university students and to provide them with practical experience that help them qualify as distinguished professional staff, able to lead the government financial work. The SFD was keen to cooperate in organising conferences and academic forums specialised in public finance and government regulations, in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. He pointed out that the MoU enhanced cooperation with the educational institutions and contributed to supplement the theoretical material with the practical applications and complemented the various joint projects between the Sharjah Finance Department and the University of Sharjah. He expressed his appreciation to the efforts exerted by the University in qualifying distinguished graduates. The SFD was keen to provide graduates with the training and qualification opportunities for the marketplace. It has also been keen to continue cooperation with the UoS in order to provide the UAE students and youth and opportunity to participate in all the initiatives and activities of the Department.

His Excellency Dr Humaid Mjol Al Nuaimi emphasised that the University of Sharjah was currently one of the top local and regional universities according to the latest international university rankings. The UoS was ranked among the world's top 100 emerging and new international universities. It is a comprehensive University teaching all the academic majors, in accordance with the vision of the university founder and President His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The university has always been seeking to serve the local community and institutions, by signing similar cooperation agreements with them. The University currently offered 97 accredited academic programs in 14 colleges, including 53 undergraduate programs, 29 master's programs, 14 doctoral programs and one graduate diploma program. The number of students studying at the University of Sharjah in these various degrees averaged to more than 15,000 male and female students, and the number of graduates has exceeded 29,000 male and female graduates so far. He pointed out that all the majors offered by the University of Sharjah met the requirements of the labour market and the needs of the community, such as Renewable and Sustainable Energy Engineering Program. The scientific research at the university have been given a great importance and a number of research centers, institutes and research groups were established in many majors, especially medical, engineering, social and legal sciences and Islamic studies. The University of Sharjah was distinguished by having a number of centers and institutes, including the Sharjah Academy of Space and Astronomy Science and Technology and the Sharjah Technology and Innovation Park.

This agreement acquired its importance from the fact that it will expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation in fields of training and education, boost the level of scientific research, and develop professional skills. The MoU came as part of the tools to keep abreast of the cultural and modern development of the Emirate of Sharjah, in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Under the MoU, the University of Sharjah will design suitable government financial courses based on the government's financial resources management system “Takamul" the government-approved financial system for the Government of Sharjah, for the students of the College of Business Administration. These courses designed in accordance with the academic curriculum are to be among the academic references and information in the government financial work. They will qualify distinguished graduates to work in the financial departments of the Government of Sharjah. The MoU comprised a number of items on bilateral financial and academic cooperation, providing support within the areas of work, and on the implementation of bilateral programs and initiatives.

The MoU also stipulates the bilateral cooperation to launch several initiatives and programs that qualify the employees of the governmental financial sector to deal with the modern financial challenges, and the implementation of specific joint works to stimulate students and graduates and government employees to cooperate in boosting the government financial work to achieve the public interest.

The vision of the Sharjah Finance Department is to seek global financial leadership by developing innovative techniques to achieve the financial stability and sustainability depending on three key strategic directions: financial stability and sustainability, innovative financial services, and stimulating domestic environment.​
