The Sharjah Finance Department hosted the “Documents Caravan” initiative, organised in collaboration with Sharjah Archi​ves, coinciding with International Archives Week. The initiative aimed to collect old documents and historical records, while promoting a culture of documentation among employees. Aisha Liwad, Head of the Documents and Archives Group at the Department, affirmed that documents are not merely papers, but a collective memory that preserves the journey of work and achievement and reflects institutional development. She noted that the Department’s participation in the initiative stems from its commitment to embedding a culture of institutional documentation and safeguarding records that form an integral part of the Emirate’s memory and history. She added that systematically strengthening documentation practices contributes to improving operational efficiency, supporting transparency, and facilitating access to data and information when needed. This, in turn, enhances the quality of decision-making and reinforces a sustainable institutional model aligned with the Sharjah Government’s vision for administrative excellence. The initiative witnessed strong engagement from Department employees and featured a documentation exhibition titled “The First in Sharjah”, highlighting key historical milestones and the Emirate’s most significant achievements. Sharjah Archives also delivered a specialised workshop titled “The Document Is a Trust”, which covered several themes, including the concept of documentation, types of documents, and the stages of document handling and restoration. The event also showcased key publications issued by Sharjah Archives and encouraged employees to contribute to enriching the historical repository by submitting any old documents or records in their possession that may hold historical or archival value.
